Kids Summer Camps Austin TX Just Got a Little More Delicious
Looking for a summer camp in Austin where your child learns real skills — and has a blast doing it? At Foodie Kids, kids summer camps, our little chefs tackled one of the most adorable recipes we’ve ever made: Marranito cookies — traditional Mexican pig-shaped gingerbread treats that are as fun to make as they are to eat!
What Are Marranito Cookies?
Marranitos (meaning “little pigs” in Spanish) are a beloved Mexican bakery staple made with piloncillo, cinnamon, ginger, and anise. They’re chewy, warmly spiced, and shaped like cute little pigs — which made them an instant hit with our campers. Kids learned about the cultural history of this classic treat, then rolled up their sleeves and got to work shaping, baking, and (of course) taste-testing their creations.
According to the Smithsonian’s American food heritage resources, celebrating culinary traditions from diverse cultures is one of the most powerful ways to build curiosity and empathy in young learners. We couldn’t agree more!
